BlueSky Downloader — Videos & Images
Bluesky, the decentralized social network, has quickly filled up with video and image posts, but it gives you no built-in way to save the original media. ReelsDownloader resolves it from any public Bluesky post link: MP4 video or full-resolution images, with no watermark and no login. It works in any browser on desktop or mobile, so there's nothing to install. Only public posts can be fetched — anything requiring a login stays private. Use it to save your own posts, media you're permitted to reuse, or public content you want to keep, and always credit creators and respect their rights. The how-to below shows how to copy a Bluesky post link, and the FAQ covers video and image posts, quality, and common issues.
Works with public links only. We never store the videos you download — links are resolved on demand.
An open protocol, not just an app
Bluesky runs on the AT Protocol, which makes it structurally different from every closed platform here. Posts live in user-controlled repositories, identities can be tied to your own domain, and the data model is public by design. Practically, this means Bluesky content is unusually accessible: the protocol was built so that other clients and services could read it, rather than treating that as an attack to defend against.
Images are blobs with a content identifier
Media on Bluesky is stored as a blob referenced by a content-addressed hash and served from a user's data server. Because the address derives from the content itself, identical images share an identifier. Posts support up to four images, each with its own alt text — and alt-text culture on Bluesky is notably strong, so descriptions are frequently present and genuinely useful.
Video arrived later and is capped
Video support came after launch and is limited in both length and size, served through the protocol's own video infrastructure. Compared with the established platforms it is modest, and the catalogue skews heavily toward images and text.
Federation means deletion is imperfect
Content propagates across relays and other servers. Deleting a post removes it from your repository, but copies may persist on infrastructure its author does not control. This is a genuine property of open federation rather than a bug, and it is worth understanding before posting anything you would want to withdraw.
Custom feeds and labellers do not change media access
Bluesky's algorithmic feeds and moderation labellers are layered on top of the same underlying posts. A post hidden from a feed by a labeller still exists at its address — moderation there is a presentation decision rather than a deletion.
Open access still is not open licence
The protocol makes fetching easy, and it is tempting to read that as permission. It is not. Photographers, illustrators and journalists post on Bluesky under exactly the same copyright as anywhere else; the openness is architectural, not legal.
