Instagram Downloader — Reels, Stories & Posts

Instagram keeps the good stuff locked inside the app — you can watch a Reel, a Story, or a photo carousel, but there's no built-in way to save the original file to your phone or computer. ReelsDownloader fixes that. Paste a public Instagram link and we resolve the source media exactly as it was uploaded: Reels as clean MP4 video, photos and carousels as full-resolution JPGs, and Stories before they expire — all with no watermark, no re-compression, and no Instagram login. It works the same in any browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, or Mac, so you don't need to install anything to save a clip you'll want to rewatch later. Because we only ever touch public content, private profiles and login-gated posts stay private. Use it to keep your own posts, save inspiration you have permission to reuse, or archive a family moment a relative shared publicly — then read the quick how-to and FAQ below to get the best quality every time.

Works with public links only. We never store the videos you download — links are resolved on demand.

Understanding what Instagram actually serves

Instagram is really several different products stitched into one app, and each one stores media in its own way. A Reel is a short vertical video that lives permanently on a profile; a feed post can be a single photo, a single video, or a swipeable carousel of up to twenty items; and a Story is a separate, time-boxed layer that vanishes after twenty-four hours. When you paste a link, the first thing that matters is which of these you are pointing at, because the underlying files are structured completely differently. A carousel, for example, is not one file but a bundle, and each slide can be a full-resolution JPEG or its own MP4.

Why the links expire

Instagram delivers its media through a content-delivery network using signed URLs. Every image and video file carries a cryptographic signature and an expiry timestamp baked into the address. That is why a media URL you grabbed an hour ago suddenly returns an error today: the signature has aged out. It is not that the post was deleted, it is that the temporary access token minted for that request has quietly expired. A good downloader resolves a fresh signed URL at the moment you request it, which is why fetching straight from the original post link is far more reliable than reusing a saved file address.

What can and cannot be fetched

Only public content is reachable. If an account is set to private, its Reels, posts, and Stories are gated behind Instagram's login and follow-approval system, and no third-party tool can bypass that without credentials it should never be asking for. The same applies to close-friends Stories and archived content. On the flip side, public carousels are worth the effort because each photo is available at its original upload resolution rather than the compressed thumbnail you see while scrolling. Profile pictures are a separate case entirely, stored as small square avatars rather than full media, so expect a modest resolution there.

A practical note on Stories: because they self-destruct after a day, the window to save one is genuinely short. Once the twenty-four-hour clock runs out the file is gone from the public endpoint, and re-sharing it later depends entirely on whether the creator saved it as a Highlight.

Use it responsibly

Downloading is a convenience, not a licence. Save public Reels and photos for offline viewing, reference, or your own archive, but treat the creator's work as theirs. Re-uploading someone else's Reel as if it were your own, or lifting carousel photos into a commercial project, crosses a line that both common decency and Instagram's terms draw clearly. When in doubt, ask the creator or credit them, and never attempt to pull content from an account that has chosen to stay private.
