Threads Downloader — Videos & Photos

Threads, Meta's text-first app, has grown into a place where people post video and photos too — and it shares Instagram's habit of keeping the original file out of reach. ReelsDownloader lets you save it: paste a public Threads post link and we fetch the source media, whether that's an MP4 video or full-resolution photos, with no watermark and no login. It works in any browser on desktop or mobile, so there's nothing to install. As always, only public posts can be downloaded — private profiles and login-gated content stay private. It's built for saving your own posts, media you're permitted to reuse, or public content you want to keep for reference, not for reposting others' work. The steps below explain how to copy a Threads post link, and the FAQ covers video and photo posts, quality, and common issues.

Works with public links only. We never store the videos you download — links are resolved on demand.

Threads shares Instagram's plumbing

Threads was built on Instagram's infrastructure and inherits much of it. Accounts are linked, media is stored on the same content-delivery network, and the same signed, expiring URLs apply. That last detail matters: a media address copied from a Threads post carries a cryptographic signature with a short lifetime, which is why a saved link stops working within hours even though the post is still live. Resolving the post itself gets a fresh signature.

Posts can chain, and each link holds its own media

The format encourages replies that continue a thought, so a single conversation may run across many posts, each able to carry up to twenty images or a video. There is no combined endpoint for "the whole thread" — each post in the chain is its own object. Pulling media from a long thread means walking the chain rather than resolving one address.

Video is short and aggressively re-encoded

Threads caps video at five minutes and compresses hard, favouring fast feed loading over fidelity. A clip cross-posted from Instagram Reels will usually be the better file on Instagram, because each platform re-encoded its own copy independently at upload. If quality matters and the creator posted in both places, check Instagram first.

Quote posts point at the original

A quoted post's media belongs to the account that published it, not to the account quoting it. If the original is deleted the quote survives as a stub while its media becomes unreachable, which is a frequent cause of half-broken threads in archived conversations.

Privacy follows the linked Instagram account

Because identity is shared, a private Instagram account generally means a private Threads profile, and its posts are not publicly resolvable. There is no separate Threads-only privacy setting to work around, and nothing here attempts to.

Fediverse plans complicate permanence

Threads has been rolling out ActivityPub federation, which means some posts are mirrored onto servers Meta does not control. A post deleted on Threads may persist on a federated instance — worth understanding both as a reason archives are imperfect and as a reminder that posting publicly is less reversible than it feels.
